[33] Frank worked for many companies in his long oil-field career, mostly as a driller. He worked in Canada as well as in the United States. He finished his career with the company owned by Emil Bowers.
[34] Frank married several times and had numerous girlfriends. He drank a lot. He was not unwilling to fight.
[35]
Finally, gasoline splashed on his clothes while he was filling the tank of a lawnmower and ignited. He never did recover from the burns' effects. In his weakened state, perhaps, he was more open to the brain cancer that finally killed him. He
was the second sibling to die of brain cancer; a third followed.
[37] The following was written by his daughter Sandy:
[39] Em and Frank met in St. John, Kansas, and were married December 29, 1945 in Saint John, Kansas.
[40]
Places they lived: Dalhart, Texas; Chickasha, Oklahoma: Saint John, Kansas; Great Bend, Kansas; Madill, Drumright, Elk City, and Enid, Oklahoma; Wyoming; Sidney, Montana; Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada; Lacombe, Alberta, Canada; and Lakin,
Kansas/
[41]
Frank worked in the oil patch from age 9 until he retired in 1969. Some of the Oil company's he worked for were Kid Williams, Shell Oil, Helmerich and Payne, Heller Drilling, and Musgrove Drilling. Frank worked as a roughneck, driller and as a
superintendent Most of the time his crew consisted of family and friends that were close and a second family. He worked many states from Canada to Mexico. He was on a plane to work in the mid east when there was serious unrest at his
destination and the plane turned around and returned to the states. Some of his friends had gone on over a few days earlier and never were able returned to the States.
[42]
Frank moved to Lakin after he retired. One of the he enjoyed doing was tinkering with the cars, and taking care of their upkeep, working around the house. Spending time with the grandchildren Chuck and Tammy taking them fishing. Chuck helped
him in the yard. Frank really enjoyed his garden.
[43]
One summer he was cleaning and clearing an area behind the house for the garden he would put in the kids had got a garden tractor and would be bringing it over in a few weeks so he was preparing the ground he had raked everything into a pile
and had cleaned the yard up .Frank went to bum and he didn't think the fire was starting so he went and filled a three pound coffee can with gas as he was carrying it over the trash to start the fire. He sloshed gas on himself and his nylon
jumpsuit the fire had already started and as he poured the fuel on the fire the flames followed the gas up to its source and consumed him in his belted clothing and he was injured. 80 percent of his body was 2nd and 3 rd degree bums he spent
several months in the hospital with many skin grafts and healing. There was some permanent damage done about a year later he was admitted to a Rest home facility, where he had to learn to walk again This facility was catty comer from Sandy,
Jerry and the kids. When he got better he would walk over to the kids quite often till he couldn't get around any more. One of the things Frank enjoyed was time with his daughter and grandchildren, Chuck and Tammy worked there. Chuck came in 7a
m-3pmin maintenances and Tammy worked 3pm-llpm on the floor as a nurse aide. Sandy was in and out constantly so he always had some one close. Frank remained there until his death. He had a brain tumor, fluid on his lungs and a heart condition
congestive, heart failure He died of congestive heart failure. He fought a long hard fight. He was a member of the first Baptist Church in Chickasha Oklahoma and he was proud to be a 32 degree Mason. He loved fishing and gardening. He was very
close to his family. His mother Millie Myrtle (Ketchum) Musgrove and a baby girl died in childbirth He was the oldest child of five. Times were hard and at age eight it was time for him to step up and help the family he went to work in the oil
patch with his dad . this was the beginning of what he would do all his life. He did every job on the rig and learned it well. Rig hand, derrick hand, driller.
[44]
There was always immediate family in the crews and if they weren't blood they were like a second family. All very close. In the oilfield you moved constantly. Llater he was a tool pusher and superintendent. Hhe was partners in Musgrove Drilling
and Heller Drilling. Frank worked all over the United States, some in Mexico and Canada. Some of the other companies I know of were Kid Williams, Helmerich and Payne, Shell Oil, He loved what he did. He did it well.
[45] He helped raise his brothers and sisters and helped with his nephews and nieces. He loved each of them very much.
[46] Frank was married twice. The second marriage was to Emma Walker. They met in Great Bend, Kansas. Frank was working for Helmerich and Payne in the Susank field. Emma was living with her sister Bertha and working in a cafe in Great Bend, Ks.
